Venue Information

Our hosts for 2025 are the wonderful librarians at Cardiff University.

Located in the capital city of Wales, the university has a rich history dating back to its inauguration in 1883 as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. Established as one of the founding colleges of the University of Wales, it was initially intended to provide higher education opportunities in the region. The university grew steadily in both size and reputation, becoming known for its strong focus on research and academic excellence.

In 2005 Cardiff University achieved full university status, becoming an independent institution after the dissolution of the University of Wales. Today, it is a member of the prestigious Russell Group, which represents 24 of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities. With a student body of around 40,000, Cardiff University is the largest Welsh university and is consistently in the rankings of the top 100 universities in the world and top 20 in the UK.

LILAC 2025 will be held in the Centre for Student Life, which is located on Park Place, CF10 3BB.

The Centre for Student Life (CSL) houses the university’s student services.  Opened in 2021, this prestigious and spacious building is situated on Park Place in the centre of the Cathays Park campus. The CSL is centrally located: it is a safe and easy 5-minute walk from Queen Street, one of the city centre’s main shopping districts and is conveniently situated next to Cathays railway station. The venue is fully accessible – for detailed information see the accessibility guide.
